EHS Generalist - Operations

Reports To: Vice President of Operations

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
• Leads programs for compliance with environmental, health, safety & security regulations and requirements and provides compliance specifications to other areas of function
• Develop, implement, and lead the facility’s EHS assessment process
• Ensures accurate and timely environmental and safety recordkeeping and document management including the submission of periodic reports to regulatory agencies
• Leads and/or assists with emergency response activities
• Interface with regulatory and public sector safety authorities as appropriate
• Participate in Safety Audits, PHA’s and other elements of Plant/Process Safety Management integral to sites’ safety performance
• Develop, review, and revise site safety plan in collaboration with site leadership teams
• Prioritize major hazards and risks across the site, and ensure actions are taken to mitigate or eliminate risks
• Lead incident investigations for safety and environmental incidents and participate in management review of all serious incidents
• Participate in formal HSE reviews of existing equipment modifications, new equipment purchases, and changes in site processes
• Lead, support, and guide ABI safety committees and activities
• Participate in annual budget development process and drive cost reduction opportunities
• Track, report, and analyze safety performance and implement corrective actions as necessary
• Leads the development, review, and revision of safety training programs; facilitates train-the-trainer sessions.
• Must be independently driven to seek improvement opportunities in the safety review process.
• Help manage sites’ security programs and systems
• Work with Sites’ Engineering & Maintenance Resources to resolve issues identified during Loss Prevention/Risk Management inspections
• Promote incident prevention for the benefit of employees and visitors
• Assist in the development and presentation of relevant HSE training
• Ability to oversee Hazardous Waste Storage area and ensure regulatory agency compliance
• Achieve annual targets for incident frequency, severity, and related cost reductions

 

REQUIRED SKILLS
• Four-year degree (BS/BA) in Environmental Engineering, Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Science/Studies, or other applicable degree
• Minimum of (3) years of EHS experience in a manufacturing setting preferred
• Experience with managing a worker’s compensation program; overseeing claims reporting, record keeping and analysis
• Demonstrated ability to create and execute safety programs that engage employees and enable a safe work culture
• Strong track record of leading continuous improvement in functional areas
• Strong understanding of and ability to manage systems under applicable regulatory controls – local, state and federal
• Demonstrated experience in Root Cause investigation
• Experience with thermal oxidizers
• Professional EHS certification(s) preferred
• Functional EHS knowledge in regulatory requirements, EHS technical aspects (safety, industrial hygiene, environmental), risk management, behavior-based safety, training, auditing / program review, regulatory agency enforcement, EHS vendor / consultant management, business knowledge required.
• Proven track record in driving cultural change in EHS
• Strong communication skills, as well as excellent interpersonal and influence management skills
• Incumbent must be able to prioritize and perform multiple tasks without losing momentum while also completing all daily tasks efficiently and effectively
