Machine Operator
SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
American Biltrite (ABI Tape) is seeking machine operators (Coater Operator) to support our manufacturing operations by safely and efficiently operating coating equipment to produce products that meet all quality and performance specifications. Safety is paramount in this role, and operators must consistently follow all safety protocols, procedures, and PPE requirements while working with complex coating machinery and hazardous materials.

Pay Range: $27.50 – $29.70 per hour

Shift: 2nd shift (3pm-11pm) or 3rd shift (11pm-7am) as assigned
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Operate coating lines and related equipment, including coating heads, ovens, cooling units, accumulators, in-line slitters, windups, mixers, pumps, hoists, and roll lifts.
- Set up machine controls, temperatures, speeds, tensions, and coating parameters to meet product specifications.
- Review production schedules and coordinate with prior and following shifts to ensure continuity.
- Load, thread, splice, and operate coating lines for continuous production, minimizing scrap and downtime.
- Monitor coating quality and adjust equipment to ensure smooth, even, defect-free coatings.
- Install and maintain Maier rods, wiping ears, filter bags, and other components as required.
- Maintain cleanliness of coating pans, ovens, rollers, and equipment.
- Mix adhesive and latex batches per specifications and safely handle flammable and hazardous materials.
- Operate forklifts, roll grabbers, hoists, drum lifts, and other heavy equipment as required.
- Perform in-line slitting, trimming, labeling, winding, and roll changeovers to specification.
- Accurately complete production sheets and document all process and material data.
- Assist with specialty coating and printing operations when required.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by supervision.
SALES AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Strict adherence to all safety procedures and machine safeguards is required.
- Proper PPE (gloves, goggles, protective clothing, etc.) must be worn as appropriate.
- Work involves frequent bending, lifting, reaching, and repetitive motion.
- Operators may be required to lift up to 100 lbs without assistance.
- Must be able to work at a fast pace and tolerate exposure to solvents and chemicals.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Previous experience operating industrial or coating equipment in a manufacturing environment preferred.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
- Ability to follow detailed specifications and safety protocols.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to accurately document production data.
